Accessibility

Accessibility Isn't an Option — It's Our Foundation

Every session, every tool, every interaction is designed with Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened communication access at the center.

Therapy should never require you to fight for understanding. Built by Deaf professionals, our practice makes accessibility a default, not a request.

Communication Access, Without Compromise

Every client receives communication matched to their needs — visually, linguistically, and sensory-wise. Flexibility, options, and adaptive support so you can focus on healing.

Our promise includes:

  • Direct ASL communication from therapists

  • Visual-first communication practices

  • Flexible communication modalities

  • Adaptive support for individual needs

  • Respect for Deaf cultural communication norms

How We Communicate

Multiple communication modalities to match your needs and preferences.

ASL

Direct ASL communication is our foundation. All therapists provide therapy in ASL, honoring the visual-spatial nature of the language.

Tactile ASL & Close-Vision Signing

For DeafBlind clients: tactile ASL and close-vision signing with adapted lighting, contrast, and pacing. Note: Tactile communication cannot be provided via telehealth for ethical, clinical, and legal reasons.

Written English / Chat

Text-based communication for clients who prefer typing, written English, or need clarification during sessions.

Visual Aids & Drawing Tools

Ideal for clients who process through imagery, symbols, or step-by-step diagrams.

Mixed Modalities

Support for clients who switch between ASL, gestures, typing, or other communication access needs during sessions.

Online Therapy Tailored for Deaf Eyes and Deaf Minds

Our teletherapy platform prioritizes:

  • High contrast and clear lighting
  • Smooth video quality for ASL visibility
  • Adjustable screen layouts
  • Pinning options for interpreters when needed
  • Captioning (optional)
  • Chat for clarifying or slowing down
  • Minimal distractions, maximum clarity

Access for DeafBlind Clients Isn't Optional — It's Standard

We honor the communication needs of DeafBlind community members with a respectful, collaborative approach. Together, we determine the best communication methods and adapt sessions accordingly.

We provide:

  • Close-vision signing
  • Enhanced description
  • Slower visual pacing
  • Adapted worksheets and resources
  • Flexible communication methods

We Respect and Embrace Deaf Ways of Communicating

Our therapists understand how culture shapes communication — eye gaze, pausing, turn-taking, storytelling, visual explanations, and the emotional depth of ASL expression.

We respect:

  • Visual storytelling
  • Conceptual clarity
  • Eye gaze and turn-taking
  • Pausing and pacing
  • Emotional depth of ASL expression
  • Visual explanations

Adaptive Communication for Neurodivergent Clients

Many clients in our community are autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or have other processing differences — and we adapt our communication to support this.

Options include:

  • Slower pacing
  • Visual diagrams
  • Direct step-by-step summaries
  • Minimal sensory load
  • Clear transitions between topics
  • Written takeaways after sessions (if desired)

When Access Is A Given, You Can Exhale

Imagine therapy where:

  • You don't need to explain Deaf culture
  • You don't need to explain the Deaf experience
  • You're not judged for your signing style
  • You don't code-switch
  • You don't worry about misunderstandings
  • Your therapist gets it — instantly
  • You feel seen before you even begin speaking

That's what we create here. A space where your language is the default — and your identity is honored.
